Safety. It’s a concept that Mazda takes seriously, which is why every Mazda vehicle design benefits from years of safety research and development. The foundation of this safety philosophy can be found in i-ACTIVSENSE®, a series of safety technologies that use milliwave radar and cameras, to help the driver recognize potential hazards, and pre-crash innovations, to help avoid collisions or reduce their severity when unavoidable.
Technologies like Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), High-Beam Control (HBC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) can be found on the fully redesigned and award-winning 2014 MAZDA3. AFS points headlights in the direction you steer for better nighttime visibility; the HBC system automatically switches between high and low beams for safer, more comfortable driving; LDWS warns the driver of unintentional lane departures; and SCBS helps reduce the extent of front end collisions when you are traveling between two and 19 mph by engaging an automatic braking system should the driver not brake adequately.
The all-new 2014 MAZDA6 sedan adds available safety technologies that include Rear Vehicle Monitoring (RVM), which alerts the driver to approaching vehicles during highway driving; Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC), which automatically controls vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance relative to the vehicle ahead, and Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW), which helps the driver avoid hazards with an audible warning when it detects a risk of collision.
Available on the 2014 Mazda CX-5 compact SUV, Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) uses motion-detecting technology to warn the driver when a vehicle is positioned in a blind spot. The larger CX-9 utility vehicle can be equipped with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), which warns the driver of pedestrians and other moving objects, a valuable feature when backing out of busy parking lots.
SKYACTIV® is a suite of technologies that make driving more fuel efficient, fun and, of course, safe. Every Mazda vehicle designed with a SKYACTIV-Body features extensive use of high-tensile-strength steel in an exceptionally “straight structure” for increased rigidity, reduces weight and improved handling. The SKYACTIV-Body also better protects occupants in the event of a collision. As an example, the redesigned MAZDA3 body structure is lighter and 30 percent more rigid than its predecessor.
The MAZDA3, MAZDA6 and CX-5 are also among an elite few vehicles that earned a prestigious “2014 Top Safety Pick+” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to their superior crash test performance. Having three vehicles meet this rigorous safety standard further illustrates the Mazda commitment to safety in every vehicle they build.
Even technological features are safety oriented. For example, the 2014 MAZDA3 features an all-new “heads-up” infotainment system called MAZDA CONNNECT. Through Bluetooth HandsFree phone and audio and a visible heads-up display on the windshield, MAZDA CONNECT keeps drivers fully connected without them having to take their hands off the wheel or their eyes off the road.
In addition, every vehicle in the Mazda lineup comes with a long list of standard safety features, including six airbags, Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH).
Award-winning safety and exhilarating driving performance – those are the promises every Mazda vehicle keeps. If you’re looking for a new family vehicle that puts a priority on safety, stop by today to see and drive the full line of new Mazda vehicles.

Vehicle Details: Mazda Safety
Mazda builds cars that are sporty, dynamic and fun to drive. While it is true that all Mazdas are created to excite the driver, Mazda pursues safety over everything else. Thanks to the new SKYACTIV® technologies and other advancements, Mazda has been able to make their cars safer than ever while still enhancing their performance and unique style.
The new suite of SKYACTIV® technologies illustrates how Mazda has engineered performance and safety at the same time. For example, 61 percent of the SKYACTIV-Body of the all-new CX-5 crossover is made of high-tensile-strength steel. This steel not only greatly decreases weight, for improved performance and handling, it also increases the strength of the outer shell for greater collision protection. The story is the same with the SKYACTIV-Chassis; the increased strength enhances handling while providing a rigid backbone for the entire structure of the vehicle.
In addition to cutting-edge construction materials and techniques, Mazda also makes use of many
more traditional safety features. Every Mazda comes loaded with advanced airbags. Other standard features across the entire lineup include Antilock Brakes, Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control.
The brand’s mission to make some of the best-handling cars on the market also makes them safer. When an emergency situation arises, you need a vehicle that will react quickly, confidently and predictably. The “Zoom-Zoom” character of Mazda cars also enhances your ability to make it through an emergency situation unscathed.
For even greater levels of comfort and security, Mazda offers some of the latest and greatest in the world of safety technology and driver aids. Features like Forward Obstruction Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Monitoring are just the tip of the iceberg. Hill Launch Assist, Smart City Brake Support and Rear Cross Traffic Alert System are also on the menu of electronic protection.
Smart City Brake Support is one of the newest additions to the Mazda line. This advanced system uses a laser sensor to detect when there is a car in front of the vehicle. The system pre-loads the brake pressure to make for quicker stops, and if the system feels that you will not stop in time, it will automatically apply the brakes for you. This can greatly reduce the forces and damage sustained from a collision.
Mazda safety extends beyond when the car is in motion. LATCH child-seat anchors are present to make sure your bundle of joy is safely secured, and child-safety door locks are also standard on all models with more than two doors to prevent the kids from accidentally opening the door when they shouldn't.
Thanks to its endless pursuit of new technology and lightweight, strong materials, Mazda has succeeded in creating a family of vehicles that possess some of the most comprehensive safety features on the market. If you want a car that takes the protection of your family as seriously as you do, come in and experience the safety of a Mazda.
